Featured Artist of the Month, August 2011 - "Anne Jensen"
"You should keep on painting no matter how difficult it is, because this is all part of experience, and the more experience you have, the better it is... Unless it kills you, and then you know you have gone too far." - Alice Neel
Houston artist Anne Jensen paints in acrylic and mixed media. Her works are inspired by old photos, childhood memories and nature. "I try to collect colors and memories," she says.
Jensen's career in art began after she retired as a kindergarten teacher in 2001. She was an avid weaver, but after her first painting class, she sold her looms and weaving books and says she has not missed it for a second.
Since then, Jensen studied at Bryggen Art School, a private art academy in Norway, and took private lessons with Norwegian artist Gerd Frantzsen. In 2006, she moved from her childhood home in Norway to Houston where she continues to paint and study art. Jensen has also exhibited her paintings in the Visual Arts Alliance member show in 2009 and at Betz Gallery in 2010. She has also showcased her works at the Watson Gallery, Innerart Corridor and Vox Culture Speak Hope Mixer in 2011.
