Reasons for the International Rescue Committee
INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an internationally-renowned non-profit, known for its dedication to people displaced by some of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Whether the displacement is by war, conflict, or disaster, the IRC responds within 72 hours of an emergency and stays as long as they are needed. Their vision is to lead people from harm to home, helping people rebuild their lives through meeting immediate needs as well as developing infrastructures that serve lasting solutions.
Relief Efforts in Japan
The IRC is "working through three established and highly regarded Japanese aid organizations that are operational in some of the hardest-hit prefectures in northeastern Japan". These organizations are Peace Winds Japan, Association for Aid and Relief Japan, and JEN Japan. As Vox and the b-boy community, we chose the IRC because we felt their work matched our own passions and identities well.
For the b-boy community, we are drawn to the relief work of JEN Japan, who is providing psychosocial care with a focus on children. As a community with its roots in the lives of inner-city youth, we understand the effects of trauma on chidren as well as their hope and potential with enough love and care.
For Vox, we value the work of the IRC as a whole and their commitment to alleviating conflict and injustice, core causes of systemic poverty. The IRC and its three Japanese partners have made a commitment to "adapting their response as conditions and needs evolve and aim to launch long-term recovery programs in affected communities." We believe in the importance of rebuilding with these insights in mind for a truly stable and economically fair future for everyone in Japan.
Vox Culture and the Houston b-boy community gladly join together to extend our hearts, our hands, and our talents to those in need in Japan.
