Introducing Vox Culture's Financial Coordinator Albert Wong

Welcome Albert Wong, Vox Culture's Financial Coordinator. Albie's role is to ensure the financial side of Vox runs efficiently and smoothly.

I am a Certified Public Accountant who, in my free time, enjoys triathlons and sports in general and seeks to experience as many different cultures and places as possible, especially from the vantage point of a motorcycle.  Ultimate food lover and voracious reader.

What attracted you to Vox?

I like Vox's mission, which I think can be summed up as making this world a better place.  It's purpose is aligned with my own.

What is your favorite ice cream?

I prefer a variety, so I don't have just one favorite flavor... but if I had to choose it would be Shiner Bock ice cream from Amy's.

What is your artistic/creative passion?

I enjoy playing the cello. I started playing in the 3rd grade, and currently I play in an informal orchestra that meets twice a month at my church.

Introducing Vox Culture's Financial Coordinator Andrea Smith!

Welcome Andrea Smith, our Financial Coordinator. Andrea is in charge of the financial side of the orginization, where she establishes the annual budgets to ensure everything runs smoothly.

My name is Andrea Smith, and though originally from Indiana, consider myself a Houstonian, having lived here for the most part since 1999. My professional background is varied, having owned and worked in the bar industry for a number of years, before graduating from Houston Baptist University in 2004 with a degree in Finance, where I then began working a branch of corporate finance and accounting known as Financial Planning & Analysis within the electricity industry. I don’t have many hobbies, but I enjoy most outdoor activities as well as cooking and entertaining.  I also have been known to frequent events at the Houston theatres and art museums.

What attracted you to Vox?

I liked the idea behind Vox, to use the arts and expression through art to give voice to the social issues within Houston. It just seemed like a perfectly natural fit, to use my analytic abilities to provide support to a group which aids local social causes, as well as allowing me to become more exposed to those with greater creative talents than mine.

What is your favorite ice cream?

Depending on my mood…  Usually either vanilla or mint-chocolate-chip, with hot fudge topping. If not craving sweet, probably a lemon sorbet.

If you can travel to any country in the world, where would it be and why?

New Zealand, or Romania, to go hiking, biking, and slow touring, as they are both said to be absolutely beautiful.

Introducing Vox Culture's Audio-Visual Coordinator Mark Bergeron

Introducing our Audio-Visual Coordinator Mark Bergeron! Mark is in charge of directing the video production team and editing visual and auditory materials.

I was born and raised in Houston. I attended Sam Houston State where I got my B.F.A. majoring in Communications.  An 11 year tenure as a Master Control operator with Fox Sports Net ended in August. In my spare time, I follow the local professional teams, try my hand atgardening. I’ve been married to my wife Sandy for 17 years & we are the proud parents of a 1 year old Maltipoo, named Bonita.

What attracted you to Vox?

I felt like I needed to be doing something constructive during this
down time as I look for employment.

What is your favorite ice cream?

I am a big ice cream fan. Some of my favorite flavors are banana nut,
rocky road, strawberries & cream, cheesecake, etc.

What is your favorite thing to do in Houston?

One of my favorite things to do here in Houston is some recreational
bike riding (nowadays, not more than about 20 miles), I golf about 2
or 3 times a year.

Introducing Vox Culture's Videographer, Thomas Wright!

Introducing our Videogapher Thomas Wright! Thomas is in charge of caputring and editing events that are hosted by Vox.

What attracted you to VOX?

I'm looking for ways to become more active in the Houston community, to do something less self-interested than my usual grind. I found the videography advert for VOX via volunteerhouston.org and it looked like a good opportunity to meet people, find out what's going on in houston, and use some of the skills I have to help or promote a decent cause.

What is your favorite ice cream?

My favorite ice cream is the ice cream that's in my freezer (because that's the easiest to eat!). Now if you're asking what my favorite flavor is, I'd have to say mint chocolate chip. That or a good butter pecan shake from Braums. You ever had Braums ice cream? The best.

If you can have any super power what would it be and why?

My super power would be: the ability to product any dessert at will, whenever I wanted. I mean, think about it, somebody's having a bad day, looking blue *POW* "How would you like some pistachio pudding, Mrs. Smith?". Your friend comes in a tells you that he got a new job *POW* "Let's celebrate with cream pops!". You're party is looking a little sparse *POW* "Chocolate fountain!". With this ability you have endless opportunity to win friends and make somebody's day.
